Drought Planning and Management
Drought is a recurring phenomenon in Wyoming. It is part of what defines Wyoming Rangelands. It is a primary force in determining our range plant communities and the plants which live on rangeland have adaptations to surviving short term (a few years) of drought conditions. When drought arrives, they begin to cope with it! Unfortunately, we humans often lag in our response to drought and sometimes do not have coping strategies to deal with drought. These articles are presented to help us design our drought management strategies which help us cope with drought and develop plans to soften the blow of the next drought which is on the way!
The man who has a short pasture needs a rain much worse than his neighbor who has ample forage on the range. But, when the rains come, it will do the least good for the fellow who needs it most.
